PE at Strive4 aims to develop an engaging, high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel both in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and well-being. PE at Strive4 is an imperative element of the curriculum and through the selection of suitably differentiated tasks, children, irrespective of their ability, are motivated to further develop their potential. Children compete in sport and other activities that build character. We aim to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of a team, to understand fairness and equity of play in order to embed these life-long values. We intend to give all children the opportunity to extend their range and develop their proficiency of physical skills as well as appreciating all the benefits of participation now and in the future.
Core of the core
Farnham Green Primary School recognises the value of Physical Education (P.E). We fully adhere to the aims of the national curriculum for physical education to ensure that all children:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- have the physical literacy needed which will then encourage participation in physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
- have positive engagement’s in PE.
Organisation of the curriculum
The PE Curriculum at Strive4 is based upon the Get Set 4 PE scheme of work. Each year group completes 12 units over the course of the year. This equates to two units each half term and ensures full coverage of the national curriculum. Each unit is given one hour a week, which ensures that students are getting at least two hours of physical activity each week.
Each Year group studies a dance unit; this moves away from Get Set 4 PE so that each year group learns a different genre of dance. Unit overviews have been created to ensure that the curriculum is ambitious whilst supporting teachers with the progression of knowledge and skills. In order to ensure the aims of the Strive4 PE curriculum are ambitions and tailored to the needs of our children, Badminton and Tennis are also taught through other schemes, Shuttle Time and Playing for Life.
Get Set 4 PE allows teachers to assess pupils online. A skills progression map has also been created to support teachers during assessment.
At Strive4, we have after-school sports clubs and in-school workshops run by outside organisations throughout the year to give students access to an even wider range of activities. We also offer bicycle training for pupils to learn how to ride bicycles and about safety and maintenance. Year 5 and 6 pupils are also given the chance to take part in inter-school competitions.
