The Arts & DT
Art and Design
The study of art and design in key stage 1 includes using a range of materials creatively. The children will be taught to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in the use of colour, patterns and textures. Ideas, experiences and imagination will be shared across the key stage through designing and making a variety of products. The children will be introduced to artists, craft makers and designers, making comparisons between their styles and techniques.
In key stage 2 the children will be encouraged to develop their own techniques in sketching, painting, sculpture and creative construction. They will study great artists, architects and designers and develop an understanding of how they have shaped and contributed to our cultural history.
Design and Technology
Design and technology is an inspiring and practical subject where children at Farnham Green Primary School are encouraged to use their creative skills and imagination to design and make products that solve real life problems within a variety of contexts. They will incorporate knowledge and skills from different subjects such as Mathematics, Science and Art in order to achieve the desired outcome.
Pupils are encouraged to take risks and to be resourceful and innovative in designing and making products. Through evaluation of past and present design and technology, students develop critical thinking skills to consider their decisions and the impact on daily life and the wider world.
